GGF Initiates State-of-the-Art Biogas Plant to Power Upstream Operations

JAKARTA — In a significant stride towards environmental resilience and energy independence, Great Giant Foods (GGF) today announced the commencement of a new, state-of-the-art biogas facility. Located at the heart of our primary agricultural zone, this facility is designed to convert agricultural waste directly into renewable energy, powering our upstream manufacturing operations and significantly reducing our carbon footprint.

This initiative is a core component of our long-term Corporate Affairs strategy to integrate sustainable practices into every level of our supply chain. The new biogas plant is projected to replace up to 40% of the fossil fuels previously required for our factory operations by the end of the fiscal year.

Key Highlights of the Biogas Initiative:

  • 100% Circular Economy: Agricultural byproducts from our pineapple and banana plantations will be repurposed as the primary feed for the biogas digesters, leaving zero waste behind.
  • Significant Emission Reduction: The facility will cut greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 25,000 metric tons annually, equivalent to planting over 1 million trees.
  • Organic Fertilizer Byproduct: The residual digestate produced during the energy conversion process will be processed into high-quality organic fertilizer and redistributed to our local partner farmers.
  • Local Job Creation: The construction and ongoing operation of the facility will create over 150 new green jobs for the surrounding community.

Leadership Perspective:

Sustainability at GGF is not just a buzzword; it is the fundamental engine of our operational growth. This biogas plant is a testament to our unwavering commitment to a zero-waste future. By turning our agricultural byproducts into clean power, we are setting a new standard for eco-friendly food production globally.
