Hometown Dairy Launches Indonesia’s First Gelato Yogurt with Premium Sicilian Pistachio

Hometown Dairy, a premium brand under Great Giant Foods (GGF), officially introduces Indonesia’s first Gelato Yogurt featuring Premium Pistachio from Sicily, known as the “Green Gold of Sicily” (28/8).

Hometown Gelato Yogurt delivers the creamy sensation of gelato combined with the refreshing taste of naturally fermented yogurt, making it both indulgent yet light. The Sicilian pistachio variant was chosen for its exceptional quality, grown on the slopes of Mount Etna and recognized as one of the most premium and finest pistachios in the world.

Beyond its premium taste, Hometown Gelato Yogurt also offers health benefits: it contains protein, fiber, and natural probiotics that support digestive health while delivering a uniquely satisfying experience.

Stephanie Gondokusumo, CEO of Consumer Branded Business GGF, stated that the launch of Gelato Yogurt is part of GGF’s commitment to addressing Indonesian consumers’ growing preference for a healthy lifestyle while seeking the highest quality products.
For nearly a decade, Hometown has consistently provided premium dairy products with a strong commitment to quality. With Gelato Yogurt, we want to prove that healthy food can be creamy, delicious, and still natural. This also aligns with the rising demand for products that are not only healthy and high-quality, but also authentic,” said Stephanie.

Gabriele Castagnetti, Head of Research and Development at GGF, explained that the fusion of gelato and yogurt flavors is the first of its kind in Indonesia. He deliberately combined the creamy texture of gelato with the freshness of yogurt, enriched with pistachios from his homeland, Sicily, Italy — making Hometown Gelato Yogurt the only ready-to-drink gelato yogurt on the market.
I have observed global dessert trends, where pistachio is highly favored. However, high-quality pistachios are rare and difficult to source. That is why I explored various regions in Italy until I found the very best from Sicily,” Gabriele shared.

To further connect with health-conscious consumers, Hometown is collaborating with Re.juve — a well-known healthy beverage brand in Indonesia and Singapore — to bring this innovation to the Indonesian market. This expands the variety of delicious, nutritious products made from natural ingredients available to consumers.

Romie Johanes, CEO of Re.juve, explained that through its collaboration with Hometown Gelato Yogurt, Re.juve is able to expand its product portfolio, providing more choices for people who live a healthy lifestyle but also want to indulge their taste buds with products that remain wholesome and natural.
This collaboration is about bringing out the best of nature — whether in the form of juices, smoothies, or now gelato yogurt. With this product, we want to extend Re.juve’s role in customers’ daily lives — not only for their healthy beverages but also for indulgent moments that can now be enjoyed guilt-free,” Romie emphasized.

Through this collaboration with Re.juve, Hometown Gelato Yogurt Drink will be available starting September 1, 2025, and can be enjoyed directly at all Re.juve outlets, as well as ordered online via the Re.juve website and delivery platforms such as GrabFood and GoFood.

Great Giant Foods Showcases Excellence at Indonesian Youth Farmers’ National Working Meeting

Great Giant Foods (GGF) participated in the successful implementation of the Indonesian Youth Farmers’ National Working Meeting (Rakernas Pemuda Tani Indonesia), held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Sunday, February 23, 2025. At the event, GGF presented an exhibition booth to introduce its portfolio of high-quality products to participants and stakeholders.

Among the showcased products was canned pineapple, produced by PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP). As one of the world’s leading pineapple processors, GGP exports to more than 60 countries and manufactures its own canned packaging, ranging in size from 8–107 oz, as well as 55-gallon drums of pineapple juice concentrate.

GGF also highlighted its consumer brands:

  • Sunpride – Indonesia’s leading fresh fruit brand, offering premium bananas, pineapples, and guavas. Produced by PT Sari Segar Nusantara (SSN), Sunpride is recognized for its strict hygiene standards, rigorous quality control, and reliable distribution network.

  • Re.juve – A pioneer in 100% fresh, cold-pressed juices, smoothies, coffee, and almond milk. With more than 58 outlets across Jabodetabek, Bandung, Surabaya, and Bali, Re.juve (managed by PT Sewu Segar Primatama/SSP) has become the preferred choice of health-conscious consumers. The cold-pressed process ensures natural enzymes, nutrients, and antioxidants are preserved.

  • Hometown Dairy – Fresh milk produced by PT Great Giant Livestock (GGL), sourced from an integrated farm that controls every step of the process, from cow selection to milking. Hometown Dairy provides pure, additive-free milk for the Indonesian market.

The Rakernas was officially opened by Budisatrio Djiwandono, Chairman of the DPP Pemuda Tani Indonesia. In his keynote speech, he emphasized the urgency of farmer regeneration to secure food self-sufficiency and support Indonesia’s vision of becoming a global food barn.

He highlighted a major challenge in the agricultural sector: the aging farming population. With the average age of Indonesian farmers above 50, the lack of younger generations entering the field threatens the sustainability of food production.

“One of the big challenges in agriculture is the age of farmers, which is on average over 50 years old. If this continues and no young people step into agriculture, who will sustain it? Who will produce food for all of us?” Budi remarked.

GGF Showcases Product Innovations at Jakarta Fair 2024

Jakarta, June 12 – July 14, 2024 – The Jakarta Fair 2024 served as a strategic platform for Great Giant Foods (GGF) to introduce its latest product innovations beyond the well-known Sunpride brand. At Hall C3 No. 63, JIExpo Kemayoran, GGF presented a wide range of fresh and processed products, including fruit varieties outside its signature banana line.

To enliven the exhibition, GGF opened a booth featuring diverse offerings:

  • Sunpride Lyfe – An innovative, premium banana chip available in unique flavors such as BBQ, Chili Lemon, and Chocolate.

  • Hometown Dairy – Fresh milk made from pure cow’s milk, processed through a 15-second pasteurization at 72°C. This method preserves its natural nutrients, resulting in a bold, creamy taste without added water, sugar, fortification, or preservatives.

  • Honi Pineapple – A superior export-quality pineapple, also offered as free samples and in the form of refreshing pineapple-flavored soft-serve ice cream.

A major highlight was the introduction of Sunpride Canned Juice, crafted from 100% pure Honi Pineapple juice without added sugar. This premium product stands out from many competing juices in the market, which often contain only 5–20% real fruit juice combined with artificial sweeteners and additives.

According to Tommy Wattimena, President Director of GGF, the new product represents a breakthrough in premium juice quality.

“Sunpride canned juice is made entirely from pure fruit juice and produced under strict food safety standards using advanced pasteurization technology. This ensures not only safety and freshness but also preserves the natural flavor and nutrients of the fruit,” he explained.

The product is available in five refreshing variants: pineapple, pineapple guava, pineapple passion fruit, pineapple apple, and pineapple mango. Thanks to its advanced processing technology, the juice remains free from preservatives and artificial sweeteners while maintaining a long shelf life — allowing consumers to enjoy its freshness and premium quality for longer.

Through these innovations, GGF reaffirms its commitment to delivering products that are not only delicious but also healthy and safe for all consumers, while continuing to set new standards in Indonesia’s agribusiness and FMCG industry.
