Sunpride Marks 28th Anniversary with “Sharing Energy for the Country” Initiative

Cilacap, December 2, 2021 – PT Sewu Segar Nusantara (SSN), the company behind the Sunpride brand, is celebrating its 28th anniversary on December 7 with a series of meaningful initiatives. Carrying the theme “Sharing Energy for the Country”, Sunpride continues to uphold its commitment to contribute positively to the community through sustainable activities that bring real impact, particularly in Madura Village, Wanareja District, Cilacap Regency.

The celebration began with an initiative to support the welfare of local farmers, including free medical check-ups. Beyond being a gesture of care, this preventive program also helps maintain the health and productivity of farmers — a vital pillar of the local economy.

Cindyanto Kristian, CEO of PT SSN, emphasized:

“Sunpride, as one of the flagship brands under Great Giant Foods (GGF), celebrates this historic 28-year journey with gratitude and enthusiasm. We believe our success is not only our own, but also a responsibility to give back to the community. Through this anniversary, we designed a series of activities as an opportunity to shape a better future together.”

In line with its commitment to sustainable agriculture, Sunpride also distributed agricultural equipment such as tractors and spray tools, and introduced Liquid Organic Biofertilizer (LOB) through a partnership with PT Inbio Tani Nusantara (ITN). This program includes demo plots that promote environmentally friendly and sustainable farming practices. LOB itself helps increase crop yields, reduce chemical fertilizer use, and improve soil health.

Beyond agriculture, Sunpride also focused on education, distributing 500 school bags to students at elementary schools, Islamic boarding schools, and early childhood education centers (PAUD) in Madura Village. This initiative reflects Sunpride’s belief that investing in education is a long-term effort to shape a brighter future, aligned with the brand’s 28-year commitment to providing positive nutrition.

GGF CEO Shares Insights at ICMA-SURE 2023 on Sustainable Rural Development

Purwokerto, 17 October 2023Chief Executive Officer of Great Giant Foods (GGF), Tommy Wattimena, was invited as one of the keynote speakers at the National Seminar of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and the 6th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Rural Development (ICMA-SURE) 2023, held at the Krishna Ballroom, Purwokerto.

Carrying the theme “Advancing Health and Sustainable Development in Rural Communities – Current Challenges and Future Opportunities,” the event gathered academics, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss collaborative solutions for rural progress.

In his presentation, Tommy highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between industry and education to optimize Indonesia’s abundant natural resources and tap into export opportunities for advancing the nation’s competitiveness.

Drawing on his recent participation in the world’s largest food exhibition, Anuga Köln 2023 in Germany, he shared valuable industry insights:

“The global market value of processed foods and vegetables reached around USD 320 billion last year and is projected to grow at 5.5% annually. In the Asia-Pacific region, food processing is growing at nearly 6% per year, outpacing other global regions. This presents an enormous opportunity for Indonesia to leverage its agricultural strengths,” he explained.

Tommy also underscored key challenges Indonesia faces, including food loss and food waste, where Indonesia ranks second globally after Saudi Arabia, as well as persistent issues of malnutrition, stunting, and hunger.

“Agricultural products and food production often fail to reach consumers. The role of companies like GGF is to build reliable supply chains and invest in infrastructure so that food produced by farmers can reach consumers at a fair price,” he emphasized.

Reaffirming GGF’s commitment, Tommy concluded:

“Great Giant Foods is dedicated to providing nutrition both locally and globally, while ensuring our business contributes positively to the environment and society. By prioritizing sustainability, we aim to create a lasting legacy for future generations.”

GGF’s participation at ICMA-SURE 2023 reflects its commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture and rural development, while reinforcing the role of industry in shaping healthier, more resilient communities.

Re.juve Plants 2,500 Mangrove Seedlings Through #GOODforEarth Campaign

Jakarta, September 15, 2022 – Continuing its sustainability commitment through the “Giving Back #GOODforEarth” campaign, PT Sewu Segar Primatama, under the Re.juve trademark, successfully planted 2,500 mangrove seedlings across four locations: Tanjung Pasir (Tangerang), North Sulawesi, Bali, and Tegal.

This initiative reflects Re.juve’s belief that humans are deeply dependent on nature and therefore carry the responsibility to protect and preserve it. The program is part of Re.juve’s mangrove conservation efforts aimed at restoring ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting sustainable development.

The 2,500 seedlings were funded through donations collected from April 23 to May 26, 2022, where IDR 1,000 was set aside for every 435 ml Re.juve bottle sold across its outlets in Indonesia, including Jabodetabek, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Solo, Bali, Malang, and Palembang.

“We planted 750 seedlings in Tanjung Pasir, Tangerang, as part of the total 2,500 seedlings planted in four different regions. #GOODforEarth is not only our contribution to nature, but also a joyful experience in giving back,” said Richard Anthony, CEO & President Director of Re.juve.

Mangroves provide significant benefits: protecting coastlines from abrasion, serving as habitats for marine biodiversity, supporting food chains, absorbing CO₂, producing oxygen, and offering economic value. Research shows that one hectare of dense mangrove forest can absorb 52.85 tons of CO₂ annually—equivalent to neutralizing the emissions of around 500 cars in Jakarta for one year.

Dinni Septianingrum, Chief Operating Officer of Seasoldier, a local environmental community supporting the program, emphasized the importance of raising awareness and empowering local communities.

“By planting in different regions, we not only restore ecosystems but also inspire other communities in similar areas to take action,” said Dinni.

Richard Anthony concluded by expressing hope that more companies will join in:

“Re.juve may still be a growing company, but through initiatives like this, we aim to inspire both large and small enterprises to take meaningful steps in protecting nature.”

PT Great Giant Pineapple Explores Banana Stem Fiber Innovation with PT Bukit Muria Jaya

Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung – PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) welcomed a visit from PT Bukit Muria Jaya (BMJ), a cigarette paper manufacturer based in West Karawang, on Friday (25/8). The visit aimed to explore collaboration opportunities in developing banana stem (gedebok) fiber as an innovative and sustainable raw material for paper products.

The BMJ delegation was received by GGP Director of External Affairs, Welly Soegiono, together with Hendri Tanujaya, Corporate Affairs Lampung Subdivision Head, at the Great Giant Foods (GGF) Training Center.

David Gunawan, BMJ’s Government & External Relations Manager, explained that nearly every part of the banana tree holds economic potential. “Banana stems are especially suitable as paper-making material. They are abundant, easy to process, and can produce paper with diverse textures and thicknesses,” he said.

Currently, GGP utilizes banana stems (ares) as supplementary cattle feed within its Pisang Mas partnership program in Tanggamus. “This practice has proven effective in supporting beef cattle fattening programs by contributing to weight gain,” added Welly.

The discussion also addressed safety concerns related to pesticide exposure on banana stems. David assured that the processing stages — including drying and thorough cleaning — ensure the material is safe before being transformed into cigarette paper.

The visit concluded with a field tour of GGP’s banana plantation in Estate Plantation Group 1, where BMJ representatives observed sustainable plantation management practices.

OJK Lampung Visits PT Great Giant Pineapple to Discuss Financing and Circular Economy for Banana Farmers

Terbanggi Besar, August 9, 2023 – PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP), a subsidiary of Great Giant Foods (GGF), welcomed a visit from the Lampung Financial Services Authority (OJK) to explore financing schemes and circular economy practices for partner banana farmers in Tanggamus Regency.

The delegation was led by Bambang Hermanto, Chief Representative of OJK Lampung, and was received by Ferdy Fu (Head of Finance, Accounting & Tax PT GGP), Hendri Tanujaya (Head of Corporate Affairs Lampung Subdivision), and Waliyuddin (Head of Tanggamus Operation Department) at PT GGP’s Guest House meeting room. Several Tanggamus partner banana farmers also joined the discussion.

During the session, Ferdy Fu explained how GGF has implemented a circular economy model through PT GGP and PT Great Giant Livestock (PT GGL), in collaboration with local farmers and breeders.

“Currently, farmers and breeders already have access to credit facilities from Bank BRI, which are recognized and documented by GGF. This reflects an agreement between the farmers, BRI, and GGF,” said Ferdy.

One of the main challenges raised was the availability of fertilizers, which farmers often struggle to access. Ferdy noted that cooperatives can help ease access through the Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) Agriculture program, which provides working capital loans to support farming operations.

The KUR program offers several schemes, including Micro KUR, Retail KUR, Small KUR, and Special KUR. These facilities are designed to support farmers in managing their land—such as fertilization—while PT GGP continues to supply quality seeds to ensure strong yields.

Among the financing options:

  • Super Micro KUR: No maximum loan limit, depending on quota availability and requirements.

  • BRI Micro KUR: Specifically for agriculture and fisheries, offering loans up to four cycles with a cumulative ceiling of IDR 500 million.

  • KUR Linkage (Executing & Channelling) and KUR Micro: With ceilings up to IDR 20 million.

These facilities are part of the government’s broader effort to advance Indonesia’s agricultural sector through increased access to financing, empowering farmers, and strengthening food security.

OJK Visits PT Great Giant Pineapple to Explore Carbon Exchange Opportunities

Central Lampung, 23 May 2023 – Director of Digital Asset Supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Lufaldy Ernanda, together with his staff, paid a working visit to PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) in Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung.

During the visit, Lufaldy explained that the Draft OJK Regulation (RPOJK) on the carbon exchange is in the finalization stage and is targeted to be issued in September 2023, with the carbon exchange expected to go live by the end of the year.

“Today we are exchanging ideas with private companies about their potential contribution to the national strategy for reducing emissions. We see Great Giant Pineapple as one of the companies that has made very good progress in reducing emissions. Looking ahead, GGP could become one of the pioneers among agricultural companies in Indonesia’s carbon exchange,” Lufaldy said.

He further explained that the carbon exchange will operate similarly to other exchanges, where companies can register as buyers or sellers, depending on their emission reduction results. Companies with certified emission reduction projects will be positioned as sellers, while those pursuing net zero goals may act as buyers.

The OJK delegation was warmly welcomed by Arief Fatullah, Senior Sustainability Manager of Great Giant Foods Lampung, and Julius Sugarjanto, Sustainability Farming & Climate at GGF, at the PT GGP Training Center. Both parties exchanged presentations on ongoing initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The carbon exchange is being prepared as a secondary market for trading carbon certificates, backed by a robust regulatory framework. According to Lufaldy, it is crucial for the government to involve stakeholders to ensure that the exchange effectively supports Indonesia’s climate change mitigation efforts.

He also highlighted that carbon trading has become a key area of interest, not only for domestic stakeholders but also for international investors. The regulatory foundation for this initiative is based on:

  • Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 98/2021 on the Implementation of the Economic Value of Carbon.

  • Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 21/2022 on Procedures for Implementing the Economic Value of Carbon.

  • Law No. 4/2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, which mandates OJK to oversee the carbon exchange.

Key regulatory elements under preparation in the RPOJK include:

  • Definition of the GHG Emission Reduction Certificate (SPEGRK).

  • Technical Approval of Upper Emission Limits for Business Actors (PTBAE-PU).

  • Rules for business activities, capital, and carbon exchange organizers, including the types of activities and products that may be traded.

“Carbon trading is attracting the attention of all stakeholders. With the right regulations, the carbon exchange will strengthen Indonesia’s competitiveness and support our national climate agenda,” concluded Lufaldy.
