GGF Empowers Partner Farmers Through Mini Home Biogas (Biomiru) Program

Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung – June 2022 – Great Giant Foods (GGF) has provided access to cow dung waste management through the Mini Home Biogas (Biomiru) Program for 10 partner cattle breeders fostered by the company in Kampung Kayu Palis, Bandar Sakti, Putra Lempuyang, Tanjung Anom, and Terbanggi Besar.

In collaboration with the Rumah Energi Foundation (YRE), GGF facilitated the construction of Biomiru reactors as an innovative solution to manage cattle manure while converting it into a renewable biogas energy source.

The socialization of Biomiru technology was held on June 7, 2022 in Tanjung Anom Village, followed by training on July 12, 2022 for program beneficiaries. The training covered the operation and maintenance of Biomiru as well as the processing of bio-slurry (biogas waste), which can be further utilized as organic fertilizer for plants.

Beyond generating clean energy, Biomiru’s by-products provide additional economic value to farmers by reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and LPG gas.

“Hopefully with this Biomiru, the beneficiary community can be economically empowered while adopting more environmentally friendly practices in cattle manure management,” said Tisa Virgiandriati, Corporate Relations Development (CRD) team member at GGF.

Biomiru itself is an innovative biodigester made from Poly Ethylene (PE) water reservoirs, installed underground and connected with PVC piping. The compact system only requires 3–6 m² of land, making it accessible for smallholder farmers.

One of GGF’s partner farmers in Terbanggi Besar shared his experience, noting that the gas produced from Biomiru is now used daily for cooking, significantly reducing household LPG expenses.

Through Biomiru, GGF strengthens its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives while supporting the government’s program to expand the use of environmentally friendly renewable energy at the community level.
