Chairman of the DPP Pemuda Tani Indonesia Budisatrio Djiwandono officially opened the Rakernas Pemuda Tani Indonesia. In his speech, Budi Djiwandono emphasized the importance of farmer regeneration to ensure food self-sufficiency and encourage Indonesia to become the world’s food barn.
Budi Djiwandono expressed his concerns and said that the average age of Indonesian farmers is over 50 years old which poses its own challenges in the sector. If there is no regeneration, he is worried that the national agricultural sector will not be managed, which will have an impact on the amount of food production. According to him, this problem is what later became the background for the establishment of the Indonesian Farmers Youth.
“One of the big challenges in the world of agriculture is the age of farmers, which on average is probably more than 50 years old, and the question is going forward if this continues, if there are no young people in Indonesia who want or are willing to pursue agriculture, who will take care of it, who will produce food for all of us,” he said.
