Great Giant Foods Showcases Quality Pineapples and Bananas at Foodex Japan 2021

Chiba, Japan – Great Giant Foods (GGF) participated in Foodex Japan 2021, held at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, from March 9–12, 2021. As Japan’s largest and most prestigious food and beverage exhibition with a history of over 45 years, Foodex attracted exhibitors from more than 90 countries, providing opportunities for businesses to expand their networks both in person and online.

The hybrid format of Foodex 2021 allowed exhibitors and buyers to connect through online meetings before advancing to direct business discussions, ensuring broader access and more flexible opportunities despite ongoing global restrictions.

Sri Nuryanti, Agricultural Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, highlighted Indonesia’s strong participation:

“Foodex Japan is one of the world’s largest international F&B exhibitions, welcoming participants from across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, and Australia. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia continues to showcase its leading food and beverage products in this hybrid format.”

Through GGF, PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) featured fresh pineapples and bananas under the Oriji brand, alongside canned pineapples and other processed fruit products.

Josep Lay, Managing Director of Sales and Marketing at GGF, expressed appreciation:

“We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this exhibition. PT GGP has long been a key exporter of canned pineapples, currently commanding a 23% market share in Japan. Since 2015, we have also been exporting fresh fruit to Japan. We hope our products continue contributing positively to Indonesia’s foreign exchange.”

Indonesia’s presence at Foodex 2021 was a collaborative effort involving the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Agriculture, Bank Indonesia Tokyo, Indonesia Trade Promotion Center Osaka, and the ASEAN Japan Center.

When inaugurating the Indonesian Pavilion, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi emphasized that the 46th Foodex exhibition is a valuable opportunity to expand Indonesian products’ visibility in Japan and globally, positioning them as alternative sources of high-quality food and beverage supply.
