OJK Visits PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) Regarding Plans to Launch a Carbon Exchange

Director of Digital Asset Supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Lufaldy Ernanda and his staff paid a working visit to PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung, Tuesday (23/5).

During the visit, Lufaldy said that currently the Draft OJK Regulation (RPOJK) regarding the carbon exchange is being prepared and hopefully it can be released in September 2023 so that the carbon exchange can ‘Go Live’ at the end of this year.

“Today we are exchanging ideas with private companies about the potential to contribute to the national strategy to reduce emissions nationally. “We see that Great Giant Pineapple is one of the companies that has made very good progress in reducing emissions,” said Lufaldy. Seeing its potential, GGP in reducing emissions in the future could become one of the pioneers in agricultural companies on the national carbon exchange, he continued.

“The system is the same as other carbon exchanges, GPP can register its company later, whether it is positioned as a buyer or seller, depending on the results of the assessment of GGP’s friends,” he said.

Lufaldy explained that the scheme will be registered according to its emissions. If there is a potential for an emissions reduction project which can later be registered as a GHG Emission Reduction Certificate (SPEGRK), it means the position will be a seller, but if later you want to go to net zero, which can be paid in installments from now on, it means positioning as a buyer.

OJK guests and their entourage were warmly received by Sn. Great Giant Foods Lampung Sustainability Manager Arief Fatullah accompanied by Sustainable Farming and Climate GGF Julius Sugarjanto at the PT GGP Training Center.

On this occasion, both parties gave each other presentations regarding the processes being carried out in efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The carbon exchange is being prepared to launch soon. Various regulatory infrastructures are currently being discussed so that carbon exchanges can become a secondary market for trading carbon certificates. In the process, it is important for the government to listen and receive input from the public so that the carbon exchange can support Indonesia’s climate change control actions, said Lufaldy.

Lufaldy explained that carbon trading is currently an issue that is attracting the attention of all parties, including investors at home and abroad. The government is currently reportedly completing regulations to operationalize carbon trading.

Carbon trading is covered by Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 98 of 2021 concerning the implementation of the economic value of carbon and Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 21 of 2022 concerning Procedures for Implementing the Economic Value of Carbon. Based on these provisions, the carbon exchange is a stock exchange. Supervision and regulation of the carbon exchange will be carried out by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as regulated in Law No. 4 of 2023 concerning Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

The main points of carbon exchange regulation in the RPOJK are being prepared. These include the definition of a GHG Emission Reduction Certificate (SPEGRK) and Technical Approval of Upper Emission Limits for Business Actors (PTBAE-PU). “Apart from that, business activities, capital and carbon exchange organizers will also be regulated which includes the types of activities and products traded,” concluded Lufaldy.

Mulyo, Building a Business Through a Cow People’s Core Enterprise (PIR) Partnership

Even though he no longer works at the company where he used to work at PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP), Mulyo, as a resident of RT 8, Dusun IV, Lempuyang Bandar, Way Pengubuan District, Central Lampung, does not necessarily give up on fate and stop his activities.

By taking advantage of partnership opportunities through the People’s Core Company (PIR) program carried out by PT Great Giant Livestock (GGL), Mulyo took the opportunity to partner by raising cattle through the PIR Sapi (Breeding pregnant cows) program.

“When I was still an active GGP employee, I participated in the PIR Self-Financing Cattle Fattening program, with my own capital of 12 cows. “For 8 years I participated in this cattle fattening program from 2000 to 2018, then took a break until I was approaching retirement from GGP,” explained Mulyo to the Gema Lampung Reporter when met at his residence, Monday (22/5).

“Thank God, after I retired, at the end of 2022, there was an offer from the GGL PIR Breeding Program (pregnant sires). “Because the main requirements are experience and driving facilities, I applied to join the partnership,” he continued.

“After being surveyed, it turned out that it was feasible to participate in the breeding program. Although at first there was doubt that he could not keep cows. “It turns out that after taking part in raising 6 pregnant cows and starting to give birth, there was more trust from the company,” said Mulyo.

Mulyo prepared the experience of raising cows long before his retirement came. “Apart from farming, I also raise cows, because this is a business I can do when I retire. “Alhamdulillah, by participating in this PIR partnership program we can become another economic source,” explained Mulyo.

Meanwhile, Mulyo is still focused on this breeding partnership. Extra supervision is needed if you have a pregnant cow, even though there are signs that the cow will give birth, the time when the cow will give birth is still tentative. You need to make sure not to leave the house empty, because birth can occur from day to night.

“When a cow is about to give birth, it must be separated from the others. There are other obstacles when the mother doesn’t want to breastfeed. Before giving birth, the cow is still docile, but after giving birth the cow can become fierce because she is guarding her calf. “So cleaning the cage will be difficult,” explained Mulyo.

After taking part in PIR Breeding, Mulyo explained that he did not keep other cows. Mulyo is ready to increase the number of cow pens because the company does not limit the number. As long as those involved in the partnership are able to look after and properly care for the pregnant mother cow until it gives birth, it will benefit both parties economically.

“It doesn’t matter if the cage is adequate, the care is good, there are many partnership programs from companies that can be enjoyed by the community. “This year alone, almost 1,200 heads, even up to 10,000 heads were released for partnership,” he said.

Realizing that the business opportunities from the PIR Cattle Partnership are quite large, after retiring from his permanent job as a GGP employee, Mulyo is determined to participate in the PIR Cattle Partnership program since 2022, a breeding partnership program for 6 cows.

This effortlessly also inspires friends who are approaching retirement to still be able to work. According to Mulyo, what he was doing had actually been prepared for a long time, when he was still an employee. In the midst of his busy schedule as a worker, the man who is familiarly called Mas Mul made up his mind to start participating in the PIR Self-Help Cattle Fattening partnership program which is stabled in his yard.

Still in the atmosphere of Eid al-Fitr 1444 Hijriah, all leaders and employees of Great Giant Foods (GGF) Terbanggi, Lampung and GGF management held the GOALL (GGF CEO Obtain Aspiration and Listen to Employee) 3 event which was held on Wednesday (10/5). This year, the event began with Townhall Meeting and continued with the Halal Bi Halal event held at the Flygi Besar Training Center, Lampung.

Townhall Meeting in Lampung was directly attended by more than 260 employees, and attended online by several employees in Sukabumi, Bali, and Tanggamus. The event was opened with the Sigeh Pengunten Dance performed by students from SD Xaverius Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung. This dance is a typical dance from Lampung to welcome guests who attend an event.

Managing Director of Production & Sourcing GGF, Mr. Wayan Ardana, welcomed the Board of Commissioners, Board of Directors, and leaders in Lampung at the Town Hall Meeting 2023. As the host of Townhall and Halal Bi Halal activities. “I really appreciate the HRD team who are so extraordinary presenting this ceremony is very extraordinary. Hopefully what we have been running so far will give blessings to all, to families, companies, and the general public.” Mr. Wayan said.

Meanwhile, GGF Commissioner, Mr. Setiawan Achmad invited GGF employees to continue to maintain commitment and togetherness for what GGF has achieved. “This togetherness is what makes GGF successful. I’m not Super Man, just like my teammates, but because we came together we finally achieved GGF which became great. Why we can achieve this big is because this is the fruit of the togetherness we build together,” said Mr. Setiawan.

HRGA Director of Great Giant Foods, Mrs. Rina Faqih on the occasion also gave a presentation related to people update and explained that this year’s employee engagement achievement reached the highest value in GGF’s history. “The next tough task is how to retain and make workers, members, and ourselves more engaged to the company. All levels, ages, and years of service have all increased significantly. So it can be said that our engagement score is very good in 2022.”

President Director of GGF, Mr. Tommy Wattimena, also had the opportunity to answer questions submitted by participants. One of them is how to respond to the strength of business in the second engine in GGF. “So far, almost above 90% of business strength is in the canned pineapple process. So the second engine is fresh fruits that make us the king of fruit in Indonesia”,

“The first strategy is to maintain the quality of products entering the market. The second strategy is to maintain the supply chain, so that good quality goods in the garden reach consumers. Third, we must know the contract grower in areas close to the market. It is impossible for all goods to be imported from Lampung. The distance caused the goods to be damaged and the land also began to be limited, “concluded Tommy.

On another occasion, Managing Director of Gunung Sewu Group, Eddy Tamboto, also thanked the Town Hall participants for their contributions. In the future, he hopes that we will use what has been achieved so that GGF can continue to grow and become a better company. “I believe that with cooperation, GGF will truly become a leader in the world. Beyond that, I also hope that what has been planned by the management for expansion in fresh fruit can also be supported by friends. We see a lot of potential and huge opportunities so that we can multiply the business in fresh fruit,” he concluded. The Townhall event ended with a group photo and the participants who were present at the time continued their event with maghrib and Halal Bi Halal prayers.
