OJK Visits GGP Regarding Plan to Launch Carbon Exchange

PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) received a working visit from the Lampung Provincial Industry and Trade Office in order to monitor the follow-up of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between Industry and Vocational High Schools (SMK) in order to utilize Super Tax Reduction facilitation.

The monitoring of PKS follow-up and utilization of super tax facilities took place at the GGF Training Center building, attended by representatives of Human Resource Development and Corporate Relations Development of PT GGP, Thursday (25/5).

“This monitoring is related to the cooperation agreement between PT GGP and SMK in Lampung Province related to vocational education and super tax reduction, which is an incentive from the central government,” said Head of Cooperation, Supervision and Industrial Resources Development Hayudian Utomo.
Hayudian explained that if the industry conducts facilities for vocational education, the costs incurred for these activities can be reimbursed by the government in the form of tax breaks.

“The company only needs to collect evidence of vocational implementation and then it can be claimed to the Director General of Taxes. Although the vocational PKS has been running for a long time, this super tax reduction policy has only come down to the Ministry of Finance Regulation in 2019,” he explained.

From the results of our interview, it turns out that the obstacles that exist at PT GGP are related to the technical submission of claims. From this meeting we will then try to facilitate, he added.

“So far, vocational vocational schools in the company have been running. The existence of the Tax Reduction facility has not been taken because there is a process, there is a calculation of the cost that must be reported by the tax department. And it turns out that the process is technically a bit difficult,” said HRD Recruitment Nia Kurniati.

The presence of the Industry and Trade Office team today actually wants to ask why this super tax facility is not taken by the company, continued Nia.
Actually, the company has followed the socialization from the Department of Industry and Trade but it turns out that from the draft submitted there are differences with existing technicalities such as the budget for electricity, training costs, and etc. because the company is not that detailed only in outline.

We hope that in the future the Department of Industry and Trade can promote what is like what is in GGP so that the process is not too difficult, continued Gregorius Aris representing the CRD Department.
“Of course, we really appreciate what if this has an impact on the tax breaks charged to companies with vocational programs or cooperation agreements with schools that do internships in companies,” said Aris.

OJK Visits GGP Regarding Plan to Launch Carbon Exchange

Director of Digital Asset Supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Lufaldy Ernanda and his staff paid a working visit at PT Great Giant Pineapple (GGP) Terbanggibesar, Central Lampung, Tuesday (23/5).

During the visit, Lufaldy, said that currently the OJK Draft Regulation (RPOJK) on carbon exchanges is being prepared and hopefully can be released in September 2023 so that carbon exchanges can ‘Go Live’ later this year.

“Today we are exchanging ideas with private companies on the potential to contribute to national strategies in reducing emissions nationally. We see Great Giant Pineapple is one of the companies that has made very good progress in reducing emissions,” Lufaldy said.

Seeing its potential, GGP in reducing emissions in the future can become one of the pioneers in agricultural companies on the national carbon exchange, he continued.

“In the same system, like other carbon exchanges, GPP can register its company later whether it positions as a buyer or seller depending on the results of the assessment of GGP friends,” he said.

Lufaldy explained, for example, what kind of emissions he wants, the scheme will be registered. If there are potential emission reduction projects that can later be registered as GHG Emission Reduction Certificates (SPEGRK), it means that the position is a seller, but if you want to go to net zero, starting to be paid in installments from now on, it means positioning as a buyer.

OJK guests and their entourage were warmly received by Sn. Manager Sustainability Great Giant Foods Lampung Arief Fatullah accompanied by Sustainaible Farming and Climate GGF Julius Sugarjanto in the VIP rung of the Training Center Building.

On that occasion, both parties gave each other presentations related to the process being carried out in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The carbon exchange is being prepared to launch soon. Various regulatory infrastructures are currently being discussed so that carbon exchanges can become secondary markets for carbon certificate trading. In the process, it is important for the government to listen and receive input from the public so that the carbon exchange can support Indonesia’s climate change control actions, Lufaldy said.

Lufaldy, explained that carbon trading is currently an issue that attracts attention for all parties, including investors at home and abroad. The government, he said, is currently completing regulations to operationalize carbon trading.

Carbon trading is under the umbrella of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 98 of 2021 concerning the implementation of carbon economic value and Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 21 of 2022 concerning Governance of the Application of Carbon Economic Value.

Under these provisions, a carbon exchange is a stock exchange. Supervision and regulation of carbon exchanges will be carried out by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as stipulated in Law No. 4 of 2023 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.

The main points of regulating carbon exchanges in the prepared RPOJK. Among them are the definition of GHG Emission Reduction Certificate (SPEGRK) and Technical Approval of Upper Emission Limit for Business Actors (PTBAE-PU). In addition, business activities, capital, and carbon exchange operators will also be regulated which include the types of activities and products traded, Lufaldy concluded.

Potential of GGF Biogas Plant in Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

There are several things that need to be understood and known related to Green House Gases (GHG) or Greenhouse Gas Emissions. In the context of greenhouse gas emissions, the concern is mainly combustion derived from fossil-sourced fuels.

In principle, the greenhouse effect is the same as the conditions that occur in greenhouses, where the sun’s heat is trapped in the earth’s atmosphere and causes the earth’s temperature to warm. The gases in the atmosphere that can capture the sun’s heat are called greenhouse gases. Including greenhouse gases in the atmosphere include carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (N2O), and methane (CH4).

Sustainaible Farming and Climate GGF Julius Sugarjanto, explained that the company has long been concerned about the issue of greenhouse gases.
According to him, the greenhouse effect is actually needed to maintain the earth’s temperature, so that the temperature difference between day and night is not too large. But the excessive greenhouse effect will cause global warming where the temperature on earth will rise significantly.
“Surely it would be serious if the earthlings didn’t care about this,” Julius said.

The development of the agro-industrial agricultural industry where when talking about the agricultural industry is not only talking about factories. But to get the raw materials it must be from plantations or farms. In plantations, one of the variables for production is fertilizer. There are various fertilizers N, P, K, including micronutrient fertilizers needed by production plants in the agricultural industry.

Methane gas (CH4) the main source is from the decay of organic materials that are anaerobic in nature will definitely form the name Methane gas is the main concern of GGF. Now it is different from the medieval era or before where the agricultural industry is not as massive as it is now. With the development of the agricultural industry, one of the impects is the formation of organic waste.

“This organic waste, if it undergoes a process of remodeling or decay, especially if the process is anaerobic, it will emit methane gas. Methane gas has the potential to cause global warming 28 times compared to CO2,” he explained further.

Now in the context of greenhouse gas emissions that are the main concern is the use of N fertilizer, because in the decomposition process there is the potential to be emitted in the form of N2O, one of the greenhouse gases as well, he continued.

“The three that we have to control, the main ones are Carbon Dioxide, Methane Gas, and Nitrogen Dioxide Gas. this is our concern, beyond that there is but small, “said Julius.

Methane gas has the potential to be ‘evil’, why do we need to concentrate on greenhouse gas emissions, basically when talking about carbon dioxide naturally, nature actually has a process of forming CO2 through the name of respiration from living things, one of which includes the natural decomposition of organic materials, there is always the formation of greenhouse gases called CO2.

CO2 which naturally helps humans to protect from exposure to ultraviolet light, but because of massive human activity from industry since the era of industrial refolusion, including in the agricultural industry, including developments in the world of transportation that use fossil fuels.

Because our business is a problem where there are gardens and factories. Gardens, using Nitrogen fertilizer, then activities in the garden and in factories require energy, most of which still comes from fossil energy, so we need to concentrate on reducing. The Sustainability Department provides more awareness. There may be projects that are handled in order to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases, but basically the responsibility or obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions corporately is not only in sustainability but all departments.

Building a Biogas Plant is one of the goals not only to get biogas as an energy source but also to reduce emissions. With the Biogas Plant is proof and has been proven to be able to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions compared to before the Biogas Plant was built.
