Academics from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Faculty of Industrial Technology, Food Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, made an industrial visit to PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) in order to open the initiation of collaboration with industrial partners in the fields of education and research. The visiting guests consisted of the Head of the FTI ITB Food Engineering Undergraduate Study Program, Prof. Dr. Made Tri Ari Penia Kresnowati, ST, M. Sc, and Lecturer in the Food Engineering Study Program at FTI ITB, Giovanni Arneldi Sumampouw, S.T., M.Sc. They were received by People Partner Area 1 Division Head PT GGP, Edhy Rumekso, accompanied by Corporate Affairs Lampung Subdiv Head, Hendri Tanujaya, at the Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung Training Center Building, on Monday (6/11). “Our presence at PT GGP is in order to open the initiation of cooperation in the activities of the Independent Campus Competition Program, Food Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology,” said Made Tri Ari Penia Kresnowati. Furthermore, Kresnowati explained that the collaboration initiation activities supported through the Independent Campus Competition program were only the initial mover for initiating collaboration with various industries. Collaboration between the Food Engineering study program and the food industry will provide great benefits for students, study programs and companies. “Establishing collaboration with more industries will increase links and matches and networking between the world of education and the world of work,” he explained.

One of the strategic development plans for the Food Engineering study program is to link and match with the world of industry and the world of work to continually adapt to rapidly changing future demands. Apart from that, according to him, students are also expected to build their competition through activities outside campus, especially in the food industry. This can be encouraged through expanding partnerships for research collaboration, sharing technology, teaching, curriculum, practice and trials. “Through this program, it is hoped that there will be increased links and matches between the world of industry and academia as well as students on campus,” he said.

Quarantine Center Conducts Work Visits at PT GGP

Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), Sahat Manaor Panggabean, paid a working visit to PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung. This is an honor for PT GGP as the number 1 producer of canned pineapple products in the world, which Sahat has visited since being inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on the 14th.

September 2023. Sahat directly inspected the facilities and systems that have been implemented in the Bandar Lampung Class I Agricultural Quarantine at PT GGP. “I have seen firsthand the service process that is already underway, I am optimistic that in the future quarantine will be solid, providing the best service for the community and maintaining integrity in work,” he said.

Head of the Bandar Lampung Class I Agricultural Quarantine Center, Donni Muksydayan, also accompanied Barantin when he inspected the quarantine facilities at PT GGP and saw firsthand the activities of the Banana Packing House and the canned pineapple processing process at the Cannery Factory. The visiting group of the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency was received by the Director of Corporate Affairs of Great Giant Foods (GGF), Welly Soegiono, accompanied by Corporate Affairs Lampung Subdiv Head Hendri Tanujaya at the Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung Training Center Building, on Thursday (9/11).

“Today’s visit, we want to see the Quarantine activities at PT GGP, ensure that all the flows here are followed by friends in Quarantine. Ensure that the conditions to which we send products can be met. “I see that all existing systems are good, cooperation with quarantine communication is good. I express my appreciation because PT GGP also involves the community through the Creating Shared Value (CSV) program. “In any case, society must be prosperous through coaching and I ask that in the future more and more people will be coached by companies and friends in quarantine,” said Sahat.

In his speech, Welly Soegiono welcomed the direct presence of the Head of the Quarantine Agency and his staff. In this way, you can see directly that all this time PT GGP has worked according to procedures, in accordance with all certifications, in accordance with hazard certification. Starting with quality so it is natural to reach world level. On the other hand, Sahat hopes that the community needs help, especially if it can help with market access. Maybe that’s the only thing that is important in society, because if the market is there, it will be easy for people to get involved in this business.

Of course, the community will prosper quickly with the CSV program activities carried out by PT GGP. Those are our hopes and I think this program is very good and I ask quarantine friends to follow this example and convey it or duplicate it in other places. A good concept is not only in terms of zero waste production and a circular economy, but also the community is involved. So the two things that I think are important to pay attention to are not just talking about the economy or business, but also helping the community.

“I see that with this concept, there will be more job opportunities for tens of thousands of gardens. Apart from opening up jobs, it also opens up more productive land. One model that can be applied in other places so that Indonesia can progress more quickly, I also see that the openness of information at PT GGP is very good. I deliberately followed the flow from upstream to downstream, all stages were explained well. If people want to learn, I think you can immediately imagine what they want. Even if you want to publish it elsewhere, it will be easier because each stage is clearly informed. I think openness of information also needs to continue to be promoted. “The language in Indonesia must be an example and PT GGP can be an example for others,” he concluded.

PT GGP Welcomes the Working Visit of the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia

PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung, received a working visit from the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, the Deputy of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in the field of Horticulture Agribusiness, and the Delegation of Bank Mandiri Central Lampung and Bandar Lampung, on Wednesday (22/11 ).

Special Staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Arif Budimanta, and Assistant Deputy for Horticulture Agribusiness Development, Yuli Sri Wilanti, and his entourage, were received by the Director of Corporate Affairs of Great Giant Foods (GGF), Welly Soegiono, accompanied by Corporate Affairs Lampung Subdiv Head Hendri Tanujaya at the Training Center Building Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung. This working visit of the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat aims to gain a deeper understanding of the positive contribution of the Great Giant Pineapple to improving the welfare of the surrounding community, in supporting the local economy and strengthening synergy between the government and the private sector.

“Firstly, this visit is a friendly visit and establishes communication between the government, stakeholders and also PT GGP. “The government hopes that in the future it can do more to support community empowerment programs that have been carried out by PT GGP, especially community development in Central Lampung Regency,” said Arif Budimanta. On this occasion, Welly Soegiono explained that since 2017 PT GGP has started developing the Creating Shared Value (CSV) program with the Mas banana farming community in Tanggamus Regency. “In Tanggamus, as of today there are around 1,000 farmers participating in the CSV program from 15 sub-districts in Tanggamus Regency with 450 hectares of land,” said Welly.

Furthermore, he said that the PT GGP CSV program has now spread to several provincial areas, including Aceh, East Java, West Java and Bali. Soon we will also enter the North Sumatra region. “In addition to empowering local farmers, it also brings gardens closer to markets to reduce transportation costs. Before there was a CSV program in Jembrana Bali, PT GGP had to send bananas from Lampung. “Now the need for bananas in Bali can be met from there,” he said.

The ever-increasing demand for bananas is a challenge, especially when faced with limited land. PT GGP understands that sustainable solutions cannot only be achieved through company efforts alone, but also by actively involving the participation of the surrounding community. Therefore, the company has initiated a CSV program as a form of commitment to sustainable development.

With this approach, PT GGP strives to not only be a successful banana producer but also an agent of positive change in the communities where it operates. The CSV program, which started in 2017 with the Mas banana farming community in Tanggamus Regency, has had a significant positive impact. Currently, around 1,000 farmers from 15 sub-districts in Tanggamus Regency, with land areas reaching 450 hectares, are actively involved in this program.

In the agricultural context, especially horticultural crops such as bananas, pentahelix collaboration is the key to success. Apart from building partnerships with local farmers, PT GGP has also established partnerships in the field of people’s cattle farming. This program, which has been running since the 80s, has developed in Astomulyo Village, Punggur District, Central Lampung, providing a real example of how companies can contribute to a wider sector.

With a strong commitment to creating shared value, PT GGP not only carries out its business operations sustainably but also plays an active role in improving community welfare and supporting local economic growth. The hope is that this partnership model can serve as inspiration for other companies to adopt business practices that focus on creating shared value and sustainable development.

Hendri Tanujaya emphasized that after holding discussions with the South Barito Regency Government, actually doing this is actually easy and difficult. According to him, the most important thing is to first see what potential is there so that the product produced is not wasted. “For investment and other things, the company of course also has internal planning. There are many things that must be seen, such as the region, culture and local wisdom, so that everything can work. “If only one is carried out, the results may not be as expected,” said Hendri Tanujaya.

Collaboration between PT GGL and ITERA

The Greenana Silage Entrepreneurial Student Team from the Chemical Engineering Study Program of the Sumatra Institute of Technology (ITERA) in Bandar Lampung has developed a sustainable innovation by creating silage or preserved animal forage using banana peel waste.

In order to develop this innovation, a team of students guided by Deviany, Lecturer at Itera’s Chemical Engineering Study Program, visited and discussed collaboration with PT Great Giant Livestock (PT GGL) in Central Lampung. The purpose of this visit is to start cooperation in producing silage from banana peel waste for commercial purposes. The development of this innovation has succeeded in obtaining funding from the Student Entrepreneurship Development Program (P2MW) in 2023. Deviany said that silage from banana peel waste is an innovative solution that has the potential to increase the added value of agricultural products while reducing environmental impacts. The manufacturing process uses anaerobic fermentation techniques, making silage an effective strategy for preserving animal feed and increasing its nutrition.

As part of the Great Giant Foods (GGF) business unit, PT GGL has succeeded in creating a similar product by utilizing pineapple peel waste. The Greenana Silage entrepreneurial team, consisting of five students under the guidance of Deviany, is committed to developing products that can help livestock farmers and make a positive contribution to the local economy. This innovative project started from an assignment outside the industrial microbiology course at Itera Chemical Engineering Bandar Lampung, by considering the potential of banana peel waste in Lampung. The team used basic knowledge about fermentation to design this project to process banana peel waste into a silage product that has economic value.

A visit to PT GGL was the first step in realizing this idea. The team gained in-depth insight into silage production techniques and also had direct discussions with a team of experts led by Surya Retnaningrum, Head of the Feedmill, Research and QC Department. Gregorius Aris Tjahja, Head of the External Relations Sub Department of Great Giant Foods (GGF), welcomed this collaboration and hopes that silage products from banana peel waste can be successfully marketed locally.

GGF at the LPPM National Seminar – the 6th ICMA-SURE 2023

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Great Giant Foods (GGF) Tommy Wattimena was one of the speakers at the National Seminar of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and the 6th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Rural Development (ICMA-SURE) 2023, which took place at the Krishna Ballroom, Purwokerto, Tuesday (17/10).
The theme of the event was “Advancing Health and Sustainable Development in Rural Communities – Current Challenges and Future Opportunities.” Tommy Wattimena, as CEO of GGF, provided a comprehensive overview of strengthening cooperation between industry and education to optimize natural resources with export prospects for advanced Indonesia.

“Recently, I took part in the world’s largest food exhibition in Anuga Koln, Germany. I want to convey several trends in the food and beverage industry that can be used as research material and so on. Last year, the global market value of processed foods and vegetables reached around 320 billion US dollars, and is expected to grow by around 5.5% annually. If we divide the annual growth rate of the food processing market into three, food processing itself, process equipment, and in the Asia Pacific region, the growth is about 6%, much faster than other global regions.”

Tommy emphasized that Indonesia, which is on the Equator and has extraordinary wealth, has great potential for the future. However, he also highlighted the problems that need to be addressed in Indonesia, especially the problem of food loss and food waste which makes Indonesia the second largest country in the world after Saudi Arabia.

Apart from that, Tommy also said that Indonesia is ranked third in Southeast Asia in the Global Hunger Index, and also has a stunting problem. People do not yet enjoy adequate nutrition and nutritional intake because agricultural products and food production do not reach the hands of consumers. “The role of companies like Great Giant Foods is to ensure that we build distribution supply chains and invest in infrastructure to ensure that food produced by farmers gets to consumers at a fair price.”

“Great Giant Foods is committed to providing nutrition locally and internationally and ensuring that the business we do contributes positively to the environment and society. “We are confident that GGF is heading in the right direction by paying attention to a more sustainable environment and becoming a lasting legacy for future generations,” he said.

Re.juve is ISO 22000:2018 Certified

PT Sewu Segar Primatama, through the Re.juve trademark, continues to prioritize food safety, which is now increasingly proven by its achievement as the first True Cold Pressed company to be ISO 22000:2018 certified in Indonesia.

ISO 22000:2018 is an international standard that specifies requirements for food safety management systems. This certificate provides assurance that a company has implemented an effective system for identifying, measuring and controlling food risks in its production process. By having an ISO 22000:2018 certificate, it is an important step in providing assurance that a product is safe for consumption.
Since its founding in 2014, Re.juve has realized that food safety is an important factor that must be maintained in producing quality True Cold-Pressed Juice. Based on information from the World Health Organization (WHO), as many as 70% of cases of food poisoning and diarrhea are caused by bacterial and viral contamination. For this reason, Re.juve always maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of the production area.

“In the midst of the proliferation of cold-pressed juice brands emerging, of course consumers need to know which products are truly safe for consumption. Moreover, fresh products such as cold-pressed drinks require special attention in the production to distribution process, and we are proud that towards Re.juve’s 10th year, we have been able to obtain ISO 22000:2018 certification for True Cold-Pressed facilities which shows our commitment to maintain product quality and safety for the Indonesian people,” explained Richard Anthony, CEO & President Director of Re.juve.

More than that, Re.juve processes all beverage products at the True Cold-Pressed Facility (CPF) Production Center which is integrated with High Pressure Processing (HPP) technology, namely high pressure technology reaching 6,000 bar or the equivalent of 60 km below sea level. uses cold water to deactivate dangerous microorganisms in fresh food and beverage products, making them much safer to consume without changing the taste, aroma or nutrients in them. This technology also helps in extending the shelf life of Re.juve products.

ISO 22000:2018 certification ensures that Re.juve is monitored by strict procedures to maintain the cleanliness of equipment, production rooms and all staff who handle the production process. This certainly helps prevent cross contamination and ensures that Re.juve products are always safe in the hands of consumers.

PT GGP Holds Parcella Foreman Kick-Off and Estate Socialization

Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung held a series of Foreman Parcella Kick-off activities and Estate Socialization at the GGF Training Center Building, Wednesday (13/10).

Foreman Parcella’s kick-off and Estate Socialization began with a series of remarks and directions from MD FA & Corporate Strategy and CEO of Farmers Empowerment Partnership Jane Fransisca, Director of Agri Plantation Imanudin, Director of HRGA Rina Faqih, and People Partner Area 1 Division Head Edhy Rumekso. Foreman Parcella’s kick-off ceremony was marked. The event continued with the pinning of signs and wearing of Foreman Parcella’s attributes, involving a red vest and hat with the words “GGF Foreman Parcella” carried out by Jane Fransisca and Imanudin to representatives of 23 Parcella Banana Foreman and 15 Parcella Guava Foreman. Mandor Parcella’s kick-off was attended by leading plantation sectors, including Plantation Asc. Director-Estate PG 4 Supriyono Loekito, Estate PG 1 Sr Manager Aldino, Estate PG 1 Sr Manager Joko Susilo, Estate PG 3 Sr Manager Sugeng Heru, and Deputy Estate PG 4 Edi Sujono.
In her speech, Jane Fransisca mentioned the background to the formation of parcella to enable better focus and improvement. Management hopes that these young colleagues will remain enthusiastic and will definitely be able to overcome challenges to make this company even more advanced. “Thank you to all the teams and employees who always give their dedication to the company,” he said.

Meanwhile, in her direction, Rina Faqih explained that the presence of Mandor Parcella was a follow-up to realizing excellent operations. “To be able to achieve excellent operations on plantations, one way is through people and organization, and how they work.” With the changes to the estate organization that were launched at the beginning of last year, the concept is about territory. Parcella is also a territorial concept, namely how people can be responsible and accountable for quality, results, costs and volume in that area so that their responsibilities are clear.

“The concept is similar to that of the estate; Parcella is a territory on a smaller scale and is led by a foreman. Initially, the foreman only managed one activity, but with the Parcella concept, the foreman will manage several activities from plantker to fruitker, and they must be able to do it. “These foremen are tested for their competency, whether they pass or not,” explained Rina. Furthermore, he stated that those who received badges and attributes such as jackets and hats were those who graduated to become Foreman Parcella. For those who have not graduated, they must be developed further, so there is a development program.

“There is a development program to prepare this Parcella foreman. Basically, to be able to lead as a Parcella foreman, you need ability and desire. “The foreman must be able to have the desire to work hard and look after the area, as well as the ability in technical competence, such as how to technically care for plants,” he added. The Parcella concept, if simplified, is similar to a house and the head of the family is the Parcella foreman. This is about how the foreman and his family members can care for and maintain the house well. If something is damaged, it must be repaired so that the house can be maintained, maintained and can maximize its function.

“Foreman Parcella is the head of the household in one Banana location and one Guava location, so the production results at these locations are of good quality and low costs, according to the target,” said Imanudin. Imanudin emphasized that the concept is not easy because everyone there can do more than one job. Meanwhile, these concepts are only focused on businesses in the garden, so the people there must be able to carry out all activities
