GGF and UGM Hold Career Seminar

Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung and Gajah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta held Career Seminars for students and recent graduates. UGM is committed to preparing its graduates to be able to compete in the world of work.

The Career Seminar was held in a webinar entitled Is Management Trainee the Right Way to Begin Your Career Journey, Monday (17/4/23), by presenting two resource persons from Gajah Mada University who already have career positions at GGF, namely, Daisy Metria as People Partner Agri and Recruitment Department Head and Muhamat Fitra Adi are participating in the LEAP GGF Shopper Marketing Agri Business program graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture.

This event is a collaborative project between GGF and UGM that aims to provide insight to undergraduate students and recent graduates on how to start their career journey through the management trainee program.

The webinar, moderated by Adinda Raisa, also provided practical knowledge in writing and preparing cover letters as well as practical knowledge in facing interviews. The seminar also provided insight into job opportunities and the importance of soft skills in facing the world of work.
“Is management trainee the right choice to start your career journey?,” said the question asked by moderator Adinda when opening the seminar.
Before delivering the material, Daisy as the resource person explained at a glance about how GGF runs its business which is carried out in an integrated manner from one business unit to another.

“GGF itself has subsidiaries engaged in plantations (Pineapple, Banana, Crystal Guava, red), Tapioca Flour production, cattle fattening, Hometown fresh milk, and Bromelain Enzyme,” Daisy said.

Then what about the career journey at GGF? Daisy explained that the current condition is a talent war where all companies attract each other to need good talent. While to get this need is limited because it must be adjusted to the requirements of someone can be accepted.

GGF has Training Development which already has a curriculum for leadership programs, technical programs for worker development. So the company can take its talent from internal according to the needs of the developer through promotion, he continued.

Daisy further explained that career is the stage of development or work experience of a person during work. So you can’t come to ask what about his career if you don’t have work experience.

“Children now want to know first how their careers are while companies will also see what their work experience and abilities are like,” Daisy said.
Career itself is a series of positions, tasks, and opportunities that a person has during work in the form of competencies that combine skills, knowledge, experience and this is realized by behavior.

“If it cannot be realized with a form of behavior, it is not competence,” said Daisy
Job seekers should also know where their passion is? For example, agriculture or plantations are certainly in the village, do not be carried with life in the city. Must be able to adapt to the world of work.

“It is impossible for companies that adapt to finding work but instead looking for work that must adapt to the work environment, the most important thing for job seekers is to adapt to the world of work, so they must first know where their passion is,” Daisy concluded

“This good hope can also be felt by farmers to get better agricultural results. By applying LOB, of course, plants are healthier and more importantly can provide added value benefits for farmers, “said Josep Lay.

Furthermore, he emphasized that LOB deliberately chose Lampung as the prototyping of the demplot, hoping that it could be expanded and expanded after conducting studies, especially in Central Lampung, East Lampung, and South Lampung regencies.

It turns out that the use of chemical fertilizers in these three districts has almost reached Rp 6 trillion. This is remarkable and some fertilizers are still imported. LOB does not want to ‘eliminate’ chemical fertilizers, but we only try to reduce the use of chemicals so that the soil is healthier, he said.

“There is still a long way to go, especially talking about plants, not just counting days. We want this demplot to be up to three seasons so that it is proven and there is trust because farmers need real evidence in the field,” concluded Josep Lay.

We really try to provide LOB products that are very quality controlled so that when LOB reaches the hands of consumers it really suits its application and provides always better results, continued Adas Widiasmoro.

“LOB production is strictly quality controlled. Hopefully what has been felt internally can also be felt by farmers so that they can grow and develop together so that agricultural land will also benefit from improved soil fertility,” said Adas.

What is being witnessed today at the Great Giant Pineapple is a far cry from what it was 22 years ago. The changes are quite a lot and the most important thing is that the changes do not change by themselves but are carried out land arrangement with a very basic concentration, said Jekvy Hendra who has known PT GGP since he was a student.

The presence of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry at PT Great Giant Pineapple (PT GGP) in the context of sharing knowledge is also an effort to connect fellow members and administrators of the Chamber of Commerce for programs, one of which is the supply chain that has been carried out by PT GGP.

Furthermore, Karen, said that one of our tasks at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to see what PT GGP has done to be able to share with the community as well as administrators and members in Kadin. Second, we also brought entrepreneurs in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to be able to learn and what can be collaborated. Especially now that the Chamber of Commerce as a partner of the government, we are eager for the programs that have been carried out by Chamber of Commerce members to also enter into government programs.

“It is a coincidence that PT GGP as one of the administrators of the standing committee organization in horticulture represented by Mr. Welly Soegiyono. As business actors, of course, who know exactly what kind of field in the field so that it is more efficient and effective, “continued Karen.
On his occasion, Glenn Pardede, said that although his party as a seed producer currently has nothing to do with PT GGP, of course in the future there may be many things that can be collaborated, for example such as Sweet Corn.

So there is something that East-West Seed Indonesia can give to GGP and I also heard that GGF has LOB liquid fertilizer and compost products, of course it is also interesting because we also have the guidance of nearly 30 thousand farmers. If there is an alternative fertilizer, of course, it will benefit our farmers, so there is something we take from GGP, he added.

Industrial Visit of the Chancellor of Jenderal Soedirman University to GGF Lampung

Lecturers together with the Chancellor of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) made an industrial visit to Great Giant Foods (GGF) Lampung, Friday (2/12). The industrial visit of Unsoed Chancellor Akhmad Sodiq and the lecturers aims to find out directly from practitioners and explore new knowledge from the industrial world.

The agenda for the first visit began with introductions to Unsoed alumni who have worked at GGF as well as presentations from GGF management representatives represented by GOFF Director Supriono Loekito who is also an Unsoed alumni.

In short, Supriono Loekito introduced GGF in the company’s journey, the product process until it is ready for export.

“Our arrival at GGF wanted to add to our knowledge, the real conditions in the field, especially for the industrial world, especially pineapple processing. And it is hoped that it will bring the Jenderal Soedirman University closer to the company,” said Ahkmad Sodiq.

Another goal is the desire to learn and see the integration of zero waste with the concept of Low-Input Sustainable Agriculture (LISA). Sustainable agriculture from an agriculture perspective also turns out to be promising until it can be exported, continued the Chancellor.

Knowledge like this is ideal for students to know. So the hope is that this will update students with conditions in the field. “Hopefully with this visit there will be collaboration such as students can do internships at GGF or the fastest is friends who already have experience and knowledge related to the pineapple industry can visit campus to impart knowledge to students,” explained Ahkmad.

In addition to material presentations, the lecturers were also invited to tour the garden area and business units at GGF, including the Banana Packing location, and the pineapple harvesting process.

We are aware that in the campus world the hope is that there are two mandates, namely the mandate to prepare superior human resources and the second is the development of science and technology.

“We came to learn more from this international company. Sometimes the instructors feel that they have enough knowledge, but in fact they learn a lot when they arrive at GGF. The campus also hopes that there will be teaching practitioners from GGF on the Unsoed campus,” said Akhmad.
